ERNESTINA FORBIS

BONE ALTER

SEPTEMBER - OCTOBER 2015

Civic TV Laboratories is pleased to present a solo exhibition by Ernestina Forbis and a performance of her ongoing project "How I Quit Crack".

Ernestina Forbis is originally from Houston, TX, but recently has relocated to the Texas Hill Country to pursue a life off-grid. Forbis has long used found animal bones as a meditation on mortality and memory in her private life and in her music performances as How I Quit Crack (a music and performance-art project she has headed for over 10 years). For this show, Bone Altar, Forbis displays some of her favorite finds, ceremoniously wrapped in glowing mason twine, and arranged as altars for the contemplation of our animal selves. These assemblages of bones wrapped in luminous string will adorn the gallery in a installation juxtaposing day-glow and Dia de los Muertos. Simply said, the installation Bone Altar is a way of paying homage to her new neighbors that inhabit the forests around her new home.
