THE HTX ARTIST COOKBOOK

The Artist Cookbook project was conceived as a way to archive the practical "know-how", knowledge, and experiences of artists and art professionals within a localized area. The concept behind this project is rooted in the realization that artists and art professionals are individuals of highly unique and diverse skill sets: skill sets acquired through the diversity of their practices, and out of the necessity to survive in a culture that often undervalues their work monetarily. The Artist Cookbook project seeks to recognize the importance of this knowledge and the experiences artists and art professionals gain during their careers.

The mission of the HTX Artist Cookbook project is to collect this invaluable knowledge from Houston-based artists, and to archive and distribute it in a way that will encourage a viral and free dissemination of it to other artists, art students, art educators, and the community at large.

Each year a collection of interviews with local artists are published in zine form and distributed freely through the various arts organizations in the Houston area.  Each yearly edition of these zines is archived here, and may also be ordered by contacting us.

The HTX Artist Cookbook archive is an open and free source of information to the public, and is a publication and of Civic TV and the Free International University - Texas.
